“Harry Potter” author JK Rowling caused a massive commotion this week after hinting at a possible new “Harry Potter” book, but what was confirmed was in fact the location of the upcoming movie, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” After taking to Twitter to share a mysterious tweet about "wands" and "nonsense," it was soon discovered that this message was in fact an anagram for the site of the prequel flick. Slash Film News also reports this Saturday, October 11, 2014, that fans of the magical franchise should also prepare themselves for a Dark Arts show to be featured in London this week, which is already booking a high number of guests. It may
disappoint many fans, but JK Rowling has put our hopes to rest in stating that
her recent tweet, “Cry, Foe! Run amok! Fa awry! My wand won't tolerate this nonsense,”
was not suggesting a new “Harry Potter” book. It was, however, one of the first
big hints offering some fresh details into the spinoff film, “Fantastic Beasts
and Where to Find Them.” The new movie will be starring “author” Newt Scamander
as a lead and offer an early look into the wizarding and witching world.
The
anagram itself was decoded by a PhD student from the University of Sheffield,
Emily Strong. Strong discovered that Rowling’s ambiguous tweet (which seems
perfect for Ravenclaws to figure out, no?) was not specifically related to
Harry Potter, but rather “Fantastic Beasts.” As provided by the IB Times in their inside
report, she realized that the decoded message reveals:
"Newt
Scamander Only Meant to Stay in New York for a few hours."
A short
while afterwards, JK Rowling herself verified this discovery and shared that
the fictional character will be featured in New York for the majority of the
movie. It may not be the “Harry Potter” we know and love, but this film will
certainly offer a new look into the magical universe while introducing us to
some (gasp!) American wizards.
A
majority of the plot surrounding Newt’s adventures in New York has not been
disclosed, but it is known that this new “Harry Potter” movie — though it again
won’t actually be featuring Harry Potter, but will take place in his “world” —
almost 75 years before the actual books. The story itself will revolve around
writer Scamander as he is introduced to the hidden groups of witches and
wizards living in New York in the early 1900s.
“Harry
Potter” fans have additional reason to celebrate if they happen to be situated
in London this week. A new Studio Tour for guests is being released soon that
will showcase many of the Dark Arts props and stage designs featured in the
original movies. (Not to mention much more goodies from the good side as well!)
It may not be a new book, but JK Rowling aficionados would no doubt love
looking at everything from the Great Hall stage, Hagrid’s cabin, the Gryffindor
common room, and actual some classrooms used in production.
For our
Slytherins out there, Malfoy Manor is also rumored to be in the process of
inclusion, as well as Nagini (Voldemort’s beloved snake) and Borgin and Burke
set replicas. Talk about a veritable expansion of Harry Potter fandom and the
Dark Arts (who else wishes they had some Floo Powder to get there?)! More information surrounding JK Rowling’s
new movie, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” will also hopefully be on
the horizon before long.
