Some suspected cultists invaded Olawale
Street, Ire Akari Estate, Isolo, Lagos, assaulting a barber, Nnakaeye
Eze, for dating the wife of one Darlington ─ one of their members.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the cultists, who were about 11, came with weapons such as axes and knives.
It was gathered that the assailants, said to be members of the Aiye Confraternity, came around 10.30pm.
Speaking with PUNCH Metro on Friday, Eze, who still had bloodstained eyes, said the suspected cultists could have killed him if he had not escaped.
He said, “The cultists stormed into my
shop at about 10.30pm, and started hitting me with their weapons. They
came with two of their leaders, one Darlington and Big 7. The man,
Darlington, accused me of dating his wife.
“It is not true that I dated his wife. I
am also married with one child. They did not only injured me, they also
vandalised my shop, stealing my wallet which contained N21,000.”
The 35-year-old, who said he managed to
escape from the scene, added that he reported the matter at the
Ago-Okota Police Division the following morning.
Eze, who showed PUNCH Metro some scars on his legs and back from the attack, added that it was the police who took him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
“The cultists, also called by an alias,
Egedege, are terrorising the Ire Akari, Ago Okota residents. They come
in the evening, and lurk around relaxation spots, waiting to unleash
terror at night,” he added.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations
Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, however, said the matter was not reported to
the Ago-Okota Division, adding that the complainant should see the
divisional police officer and explain himself.
He said, “There was no record of such
incident at Ago-Okota. Let the man see the DPO and explain what exactly
is the matter with him.”
